In "The First Pitch Insufficiency", NASA asks Howard Wolowitz to throw out the first pitch at a Los Angeles Angels baseball game since he is an astronaut and the stadium is celebrating Space Day. Even after practice, Howard realizes he can't pitch the baseball the sixty feet from the pitcher's mound. Instead he brings a prototype of the Mars rover to deliver it to home plate. The rover is so slow that the fans start booing him which upsets  Howard.

In the stands, his friends are watching. Raj likes the waterfall in the stadium outfield. Sheldon just wants to watch Howard pitch and then go to Disneyland which is also in Anaheim. Amy gets him to stay by buying him a bobble-head and some cotton candy. He also boos Howard due to the slow rover. His other friends look on with sympathy.

Background

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are an American professional baseball team based in Anaheim, California. The Angels are a member of the West division of Major League Baseball's American League (AL). The Angels have played home games at Angel Stadium of Anaheim since 1966. The "Angels" name was continued by former film star Gene Autry out of tribute for the Los Angeles Angels, a Minor League franchise in the Pacific Coast League (PCL) who played in South Central Los Angeles from 1903 to 1957. The American League franchise of today was established in 1961 by Gene Autry, the team’s first owner who bought the rights to the Angels name from Walter O'Malley, the former Los Angeles Dodgers owner who acquired the PCL franchise from Philip K. Wrigley, the owner of the Chicago Cubs at the time. They originally played under the name of the California

Shortly after appearing on The Big Bang Theory, the Angels were swept by the Kansas City Royals in the American League Division Series ending their hopes for going to the 2014 World Series.
