Mr. Gupta is the father of Lalita Gupta.
He is mentioned twice in "The Grasshopper Experiment" after Raj's date with his daughter Lalita went wrong; the first time by Raj's mother Mrs. Koothrappali when she asks Raj what she and Raj's father V. M. Koothrappali are to say to Lalita's parents and the second time he is mentioned by Raj's dad when he mentions that he plays golf with Mr. Gupta and the former won't be able to look at the latter.
